Do you remember the silly things you wanted to be when you grew up?
Okay, here is my list. I am probably going to show my age here. Just remember I grew up in the deep south and some of these are terribly funny.
1. ISIS
There was a television show called ISIS and Shazam on Saturday mornings that I always watched. I was convinced that I had somehow missed my calling and was some kind of Egyptian Goddess, I just needed to find my amulet.
2. A Fruit Stand Girl:
Every five hundred feet in Charleston there is a vegetable stand. My aunt used to work in one and I would go and spend the day with her. I considered this thoughtfully. Not a bad life really. You had all this great produce and beautifully colored fruit to sell. Things could be worse right? I could have been a trash collector. All of my aunts and Uncles had gardens. [Big ones] and I loved digging up potatoes. Nothing better than getting dirty in the hot afternoon sun. Yep, this one lasted for about two months I believe.
3. Professional Roller Skater
Go ahead and laugh. Anyone that is my age remembers Saturday nights at the skating rink. I have told you that I have an over-active imagination right? Well, I decided that I was talented enough to be a professional roller skater. I even convinced my mother that I was so talented that she just "had" to take me and get professional lessons. [My mother should never have listened to me] So she takes me to the rink, and the instructor tells me to go forwards, backwards, etc. Show off my stuff. It was pitiful really. I could barely go forward without crashing into a wall much less backwards. Needless to say I thoroughly embarrassed the fool out of my mother. I believe her exact words were "If you ever do that to me again, I swear I don't know if I can allow you to live" She said it jokingly of course, or maybe not. *sigh* I never did get my lessons. Another dream down the tubes
4. The Nun episode:
Now this one really did scare the life out of my mother. Amazing what your friends can do to you isn't it? I believe I had watched some movie on t.v. about Sally Fields and for the life of me I cannot remember the name now. But she made it look cool and fun. They got to sing and work in their gardens. I was too young to realize the serious implications of such a commitment. Thankfully, in my mother's hysteria she talked me out of it. Personally, being an only child, I think she feared she might never have a grandchild. I remember her telling me that it was easy to lock yourself away from temptation, but a much more courageous thing to fight it in the real world every day. I was nothing if not courageous and changed my mind. Plus I thought that wearing all that black might have been extremely hot in a late Charleston summer. Did I mention the fact that I am not catholic? Might have posed a little problem for me there.
5. A movie star
Of course every little girl wants to grow up and be special. What better way than to be a movie star right? This one is just a matter of course. I quickly realized that it would never happen.
6. A singer
I have a passable voice and can carry a tune, but to my ultimate dismay no one ever discovered their next big star. I was a dreamer, what can I say? However I did manage to make it into the All State Choir. That probably had to be one of the hardest things I ever did. Sight reading music. Let me tell you it's not just about opening your mouth and singing. They only gave us one note [I'm an alto] to Ave Maria and then we had to sing the remaining five part harmony from sight. I don't ever want to have to do that again. I'm sure my poor heart couldn't take the stress.
7. Cinderella
This one is pretty much self explanatory.
8. A Ballerina
Just didn't have the talent or the correct turn out even though I danced from the age of 4 until I was 17. This one really did break my heart.
9. An archeologist
This relates to the whole ISIS theme. Had to have math for this one too. Gave it up, but still think it would be fun to go on a dig.
10. The one thing that never left me. Writing.
You see, I wanted to be all of those things above so I could write about them. Little did I know about research at the age of ten. I am and have always been a dreamer. It's my favorite way to pass the day. Dreaming up stories of glory and pain. Writing about people. At least this one I have stuck with through thick and thin. Through about five hundred starts and stops. Finally, I have realized that it's okay. Some of us are just meant to dream and tell the stories of our hearts.

Ahhh Michelle. The dreams of the young nestled deeply inside of us. A small list of silly things for me.
1)Wonder Woman. Man, those BOOTS!
2)Jeannie (I Dream of Jeannie)
3)Cat (I'm convinced I was one in a former life) *grins*
4)Samantha (Bewitched) I KNEW that somehow I had all that power. Someone just had to unlock it. Where was Endora?
Most younger dreams were wrapped in magical thoughts and wishes.
Now that I'm older I realize the magic IS inside of me.
5)Always a writer. The dream that grows by leaps and bounds.
And by the way, *laughing*, Isis rocked.
Grins*
