You know I have been doing some revising tonight. It is amazing to me how much different I approach revision now than when I did before. I used to hate it. I was a "in the moment-put me in the zone and let me fly" writer.
I say that in past tense for a couple of reasons. I have worked very hard this past year to listen to those that have taught me things, and tried to put them into practise. It isn't enough just to "fly." It's about what word where and how it effects the whole. One word can change so many things. One word can change tone, meaning, and outcome. So you have to be careful in word choice. It takes a lot of thought and it is something that cannot be rushed. Oh sure that first rough (that can't really be classified as a rough) where you are basically vomiting stuff onto the page is cool. But the best thing is being able to actually see your work objectively.
Now that is cool. To go back and read something you wrote a year ago and say to yourself..."Did I write that? I don't suck as bad as I think I do" Then to go on and make it better? Now that is something worth writing home about. Oh yeah, that makes you smile and say I deserve a Hersey's Kiss! Or a Wood chuck Cider for that!!!
Anyway on to updates.
Spells: 500 hundred words (cause work sucks and when it cuts into your writing time you want to scream. Even if I do love my job! *grin*
Boxers: Revised three sections. Tightening up.
And I did some revisions on some old work I did a long time ago. All in all not a bad day at the computer.
Hugs everyone! I'm going nite nite!

I find that the only way to make revision work is to fall out of love with your prose. Otherwise, trimming, rewriting and deleting will be downright excruciating.
