Another excercise...

Here is a little bit of something that I doubt will go in any book...but I like it just the same.
______________________________________________________
“You’ve come a long way to talk to an old lady haven’t you?” She shook her head and glanced away from him. “I’m pitiful.”

Gently he lowered the cold steel railing on the side of the hospital bed and sat down beside her fragile form. She looked no more than a child being swallowed whole by waves of white sheets and pillow cases. Her once brilliant red hair had gone pale and limp around a face that had lived too long and suffered too much. Yet it was the knowledge in her eyes that pulled at him.

Eyes that knew him and understood him. Eyes still so green, vibrant and full of life that emotion squeezed at him like a vice.

“You’ll never be old in my eyes.” He told her. “You will remain forever young. The young girl lost in a forest. Pretty as a picture with the apple blossoms falling down upon you like an unexpected spring snow.” He reached out and caressed her soft face. Time could not steal a memory.

“Your eyes...” her shaking hand came to rest on his cheek. “They always intrigued me you know. They gave you away. A trick of the Gods.” Her hand fell away and her eyes fluttered closed. “How I longed to be what you needed, what you craved.”

He took a deep breath. “Ah, but you were more than what I needed. You deserved better than me. More than what I could offer you.”

The woman’s eyes opened. “You’ve found her haven’t you?”

He looked away, his shoulders dropping in response to the question he knew she would ask. “Yes.” He looked back at the woman who had been his friend for so many years. Talked to him when he’d been lonely, comforted him when he’d been lost. “I have found her and she will not see me.”

Her green eyes sparkled with mischief. “Will not or can not? There’s quite a bit of difference there.”

We must be having mental telepathy. Meghan and I were talking about you last night. She picked up the Princess and the Goblin and asked me if it was a good book. I told her...Ms. Janie thinks it's an exceptional book. She smiled at me and leaned back against the headboard and told me. "Well, if Ms. Janie likes it then it has to be good. She has good taste."
That was so sweet. I was going to write you a "real" letter today. Plus I have some things to send you. I finally finished your scarf...lol

Hi, Michelle! This is off-topic for your blog entry, but . . . I wanted to let you know I watched Phantom of the Opera on Saturday and absolutely LOVED it. Gerard Butler is a fantastic Phantom. You may recall that I had reservations about seeing the movie because I had enjoyed the theatrical show so much and feared I would be disappointed. My fears were groundless. I watched Phantom three times over the weekend and the Making Of disc twice! I know you are a huge fan of the show and just wanted to share my positive experience with you. Hope all has been well with you and your family. Take care, Linda Pierce

Dude, I am SO coming in in the middle of the story. Who is "she"? I mean, I know from even this small segment who the speakers are to each other...but who's this third party??

Thanks alot, Michelle. I pop into your blog for the first time in a month...and I'm gonna be thinking about this blurb ALL NIGHT. *pouts*

Wow...I'm such a goofball. I have been posting more on my Samantha Reynolds blog which you can find at http://www.samanthareynolds.blogspot.com

Linda...I'm so glad you liked the Phantom. It is one of my fav's and not everyone agrees with me but that is okay. Not everyone likes the same thing.

Gutterball...Hugs how are you? Long time no talk. This is just some free writing I was doing for my novel called "Spells" which I am so sucking wind at right now.

Pat...yes, still writing and still suffering...lol It's my lot in life. I'll buzz on over to your blog here in a minute!

Hugs everyone!
